Recipes for Snacks and Fasting With Kids

The first few days into the fast you may feel like you eat and eat and can't get full.  Don't get discouraged - you have to give your body some time to adjust.  Instead of being weak, tired, and hungry between meals, remember to keep fast-friendly snacks with you.  Nuts, fruit, vegetables, and juices make great snacks.

If you like to dip, try this guacamole recipe...

Guacamole

Blend ripe avocados in a food processor with juice from 1 large lime, 2 cloves garlic, 1 roma tomato and a dash of salt. If you like spice, you can add 1/4 of a jalapeno pepper seeded.

Serve on black beans, portobello mushrooms or use as a dip with vegetables.

Here is another quick and easy recipe to make for a snack...

Baked Apples or Pears

Slice a pear or apple in half. Use a grapefruit spoon to scoop out the seeds and the tough, center portion. Place halves, skin side down, in a glass baking dish. Brush with ½ teaspoon pure maple syrup and sprinkle with cinnamon. Microwave for 10 minutes or until tender. Serve warm.

Also, I have questions about what to feed your kids while you fast.  I think it is awesome that many of you are fasting as a family.  One thing that I like to do is make double portions of recipes.  That way, what we don't eat for dinner, we have for lunch the next day that kids can take to school with them.  On awake21.org they had a great calendar posted that has suggesoins for fasting with kids each day.  Check it out here!  The blog is entitled ""Just for Kids"

Also, just keep lots of fruit and vegetables around.  If you aren't doing the Daniel's Fast as a family, your kids can still fast and pray.  Some suggestions would be fasting computer, video games, television...and replacing that time with spending time talking and praying together as a family.

God can do incredible things in a family that is seeking God together!

Keep It Up...the hunger pains will go away!
